The Discovery Bay Blockbuster location will officially close it’s doors September 19th, according to employees. The Highway 4 location is no longer renting videos and games, but is gradually selling off the store inventory at discounts that will increase week by week.
Blockbuster is one of Sandy Cove Plaza’s, and indeed one of Discovery Bay’s, anchor stores. Blockbuster is closing hundreds of locations across the country, due to the rise in options such as NetFlix, RedBox, and On Demand movie rentals. The Discovery Bay Blockbuster manager stated that nearly 75% of Discovery Bay residents were NetFlix users, but mentioned Blockbuster customers could also use their online ordering system, and would be welcome at their Balfour Road location.
