Discovery Bay Elementary School represented the Byron Union School District with great success – at their first Odyssey of the Mind Regional Tournament this weekend, in Concord.

Many teams that formed Odyssey Teams this year did not even make it to the regional tournament, as they could not complete their chosen Problem in time. All three Discovery Bay teams made it to the regional tournament and did very well competing against 167 other teams from around the Bay Area. There were thousands of people in attendance, coming from some very impressive school districts and private schools.

The “Fish ‘n Chicks” team took 6th place at competition!  Wow! Congrats to coaches Tina Duncan, Darlynne Fu, and Shelly Lichlyter, and their team: Makena Bohannon, Molly Cunningham, Maggie Dodson, Giana Duncan, Emily Lichlyter, Victoria Redding, and Chase Vignati!

Team “Smarties” took home the OMER Award!   This was a very big deal and I’m super proud of my team for competing above their division (the only 2nd grade team that competed in Division I), and for exceptional talent, and overcoming adversity. Congrats to: Trevor Austin, Austin Ceccarelli, Kennedy Dethlefsen, David Dove, Emma Lenfest, Austin Parlog, and Wyatt Taylor.

The “Extreme Mice” team also did very well, and one of the coaches told me that this team, if they come back next year, is sure to take home a medal! I’m told they had really tough competition! Good job to coach Maureen O’Toole, co-coach Chantelle Leighton, and their team: Alexis King, Ryan O’Toole, Riley Pelletier, Victoria Rivera, Braedon Steele, Sammy Taylor, and Isabelle Whitaker!
