Discovery Bay to Break World Record, June 25th
Discovery Bay’s Paddle for Fame event currently holds the World Record for the Largest Paddle Boat Raft-Up (2007-Guiness) and, also for the Largest Man-Powered Boat Raft-Up/Floatilla (2010-World Record Academy). Last year, approximately 1,000 people came together on the water to join 388 paddle-powered vessels for the World Record.
This year, Discovery Bay aims to beat it’s own World Record for the Largest Man/Paddle-Powered Boat Raft-Up/Floatilla. If you can paddle it, it counts.
The 5th Annual Paddle for Fame event will take place Saturday, June 25th, at the Discovery Bay Yacht Harbor.
This is a fun and free event, open to anyone who wants to participate. Paddle for Fame isn’t just a World Record event – it’s a wonderful day in the sun, splashing around with your community, and enjoying the best of what Discovery Bay has to offer. Don’t have a paddle-powered vessel? There’s plenty to do on land: food and wine, vendors of all kinds, Chamber of Commerce Business Expo, Concert on the Green, and more!
The World Record Academy will recognize the World Record by photo confirmation, and signatures of two local officials. Every human-powered kayak, paddle boat, paddle board, canoe, etc. must be connected in the raft-up at the time of the fly-over photo at 1:30 PM. There will be several fly-over photo attempts, to ensure every participant is captured and recorded.
Stay-tuned for a complete schedule of events in next month’s edition of the Delta Sun Times, and on the Paddle for Fame website: http://www.paddleforfame.com
Note: Due to the number of sub-categories, the Guiness Book of Records now only recognizes one type of attempt: the largest boat tie-up (Record: 1,651).
