DBW would like to provide some information regarding the herbicide that is being applied in Discovery Bay.

The herbicide is flouridone. It is being applied at levels that should not result in any ill effects to people or pets. According to studies used to obtain federal approval of the product, a child, adult, or pet would have could consume in one day more than a thousand gallons of water with high concentrations and would still not experience ill effects.

However, Discovery Bay does have several types of algae in the bay. Certain types of algae can cause a variety of ill effects in humans and pets if consumed. Please use caution regarding the direct consumption of water, algae, and other plant life during outdoor activities.

Upcoming Week’s Treatment. Due to the boating activity expected on Discovery Bay next week, treatment will take place on Wednesday July 6 (rather than Tuesday).
