A motorcyclist reported missing Thursday morning was found dead along a remote road in East Contra Costa County, authorities said. Contra Costa sheriff’s deputies found 21-year-old Brentwood resident Ryan “Cole” Pagenkopp lying next to a Yamaha YZ250 dirt bike on a gravel road parallel to Orwood Road, a quarter-mile east of Bixler Road. He was declared dead at the scene.

Spokesman Jimmy Lee said the Sheriff’s Office got a call about 7:45 a.m. reporting that Pagenkopp did not return home from a Wednesday evening visit to the Orwood Resort. About 15 minutes after the call, deputies found his body a half-mile away from the business.

Early evidence suggests the rider died overnight after crashing into an access gate in the unincorporated area, said California Highway Patrol officer Tom Maguire. The circumstances of the crash are under investigation.
