“The Taming of the Shrew” Hits the Liberty Stage
LHS Playmaker’s fall play, The Taming of the Shrew, is a hilarious Shakespearean comedy in which Petruchio must woo the stubborn Katherine in order for her younger, more desirable sister, Bianca, to find a proper suitor. Katherine is put through turmoil until she realizes he is the perfect man for her.
Playmaker’s version is set in the lobby of a hotel during the 1930’s. With twists, turns, laughs, and a hint of slapstick comedy, this is a great show for audiences 13 and older. While staying true to Shakepeare’s original poetic language, the show has been edited to make it easily accessible to audiences and the infusion of classic 1930’s music will add to the atmosphere.
Due to the limited number of characters, casting was not easy, but director Helen Dixon, has high hopes for this show and her students. “They have been working so hard throughout the summer. The students’ are excited about working with Shakespeare and are highly motivated to make this show an astonishing one.” With spectacular sets, authentic costumes, and great acting, the students involved have poured their hearts and souls into this show.
