senior day
Savvy Seniors Wanted!  Saturday, May 3
Being a senior isn’t what it used to be. “Live, Laugh and Learn” is a special event created for Discovery Bay’s savvy older adults. Discovery Bay has a thriving, active community of older adults that the staff of the Discovery Bay Community Center is hoping to serve with this event.
The Live, Laugh & Learn event will feature speakers throughout the day speaking on a variety of topics, including crime prevention, the use of social media, Tai-Chi for health and arthritis, and information for caregivers. In addition, there will be dozens of fun and interesting vendors and agencies that uniquely serve our seniors and their families, offering useful information, resources, and giveaways.
While visiting Discovery Bay’s new Community Center, CSD Director Marianne Wiesen hopes that participants use the opportunity to find out more about the variety of recreational programming the Community Center offers for older adults: “We have so many wonderful programs in place for adults to enjoy here.  Now that we have this new center in place, we see more and more people using the facility. There is a new recreation program coming out that I’m sure everyone will want to check out, as well.”
The free event is the only senior fair in the area and so Wiesen hopes that the fair will draw from surrounding communities as well, “This is the only large-scale event of it’s kind in the area and we are hoping that seniors from surrounding communities will also appreciate what the Discovery Bay Community Center staff has put together for this under-served community of older adults.”
Live, Laugh & Learn is a free event and is open to all ages.  For more information, see page 3 of this edition of the Delta Sun Times or call the Community Center at (925) 634-1733
