DISCOVERY BAY COMMUNITY CAMPOUT, JUNE 27-28
Experience the thrill of spending a night under the stars at the 5th annual Discovery Bay Community Campout – an entirely free event and an opportunity for new and experienced campers alike. The Discovery Bay Community Campout is conducted in cooperation with the National Wildlife Federation’s Great American Campout, happening nationwide on June 27.
Discovery Bay residents like to do things on a large scale and this event is no exception as this event has become the largest in the country hosting more than 2,000 happy campers in 2014 – the largest nationwide. On June 27, thousands of people will fill the grassy field again at Cornell Park for an evening of safe and friendly fun.
The exciting schedule of all-free activities includes: an exotic wildlife show, country line dancing, nine-hole miniature golf, extreme obstacles, a surf-riding machine, flashlight scavenger hunt, frisbee golf, giant Jenga, kids play areas, all abilities activities and a great deal more.
New to camping? Think camping for one night is too hard? The organizers have made it that much easier for you to participate… A pancake breakfast is provided completely free of charge (courtesy of Big Al’s Cafe) and BBQ dinner from the Lions club is just $5. Can’t pitch your tent? Volunteers from Odyssey of the Mind will be on hand to help with that.
Don’t have a tent? Enter the Coleman / Odyssey Angels contest for your chance to win complete family camping gear, as organizers give away 25 tents, 100 sleeping bags, 100 camping chairs with coolers and 25 lanterns. Details on our facebook page: Discovery Bay Community Campout.
Pre-registration is required (so organizers know how many free giveaways to plan for). Register online at www.dbcommunitycampout.com.
