Hauling to Help
Discovery Bay residents rallied September 12 & 13 to help bring desperately needed supplies to victims of the Calaveras/Butte fire.

On September 12, Sheriff David Allain put out the call for help, collecting donations at the Boardwalk Grill after his shift at midnight to drive up to the displaced fire victims. He had so many donations, there wasn’t room in his car so an employee of the restaurant – after closing the restaurant – also filled his car and followed Sheriff Allain all the way up to Angels Camp to help.

On September 13, Discovery Bay residents Denis and Sudie Whelan continued David’s plea, renting a U-haul and gathering donations that people couldn’t drop at midnight the day before. The photo here offers just a glimpse of the ongoing parade of cars that arrived to drop off hundreds of donations, ultimately filling the U-Haul to capacity. Applause, Discovery Bay!
