The top two winners of the Discovery Bay Lions’ Parade of Lights both made statements with their entries this year. The Best of Show winner, Campos Family Vineyards, and Directors Choice winner, High School Prom Night, both addressed the street parade theme “All the Celebrations We Missed in 2020.”

The parade was streaming live online this year, for people at home to view safely, and families all along the route came out to enjoy this 18th annual event. As always, this Lions Club-organized event went on without incident, as the Lions Club staffed every street corner two Lions deep, with Light sabers as their traffic wands, keeping both parade participants and attendees safe.

Campos Family Vineyards presented an uplifting “Don’t Stop Believing” musical float which celebrated the “Concerts We Missed in 2020,” something the local winery is best known for. As they fight for the survival of their small business and others, they won’t stop believing and hope the community won’t either.

The independently produced Liberty High School Prom Night float presented a beautiful and heartbreaking presentation of a missed “Prom Night” along with the student rock band playing Metallica’s Fade to Black, a nod to the depression so prevalent with distance learning students across America in 2020. At the judges tent, they also shared a cheerful “Run, Run Rudolph” which had Emcee, Glenn Sparks, and the crowd on their feet dancing.

Both floats celebrated the joy of Christmas while bringing the heart of the Discovery Bay community to the front, with their passionate representations.

Other winning floats included Christmas in Paris (travel we missed), St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, July 4th, and more.
