Liberty High School’s Varsity Swim & Dive Team stunned today as the Men’s Division ran away with the BVAL Championship and broke long standing records.
Liberty’s Mens Division took first place overall at today’s Bay Valley Athletic League (BVAL) championship, with 695 points, over Heritage HS in 2nd place, with 574 points. Liberty Women’s Division took a very close second place behind Heritage, and with some surprising upsets, particularly by the Women’s 200 Free Relay (Lenfest, Hall, Sanchez and Klevens).
Stand out senior swimmer, Dylan Oquendo, knocked away a 2005 record in the 100 Breast Stroke, with an amazing BVAL record-breaking time of 57.73 (seconds), which smashed De La Salle’s existing record of 58.12.
In the final race of the meet, Liberty Seniors Dylan Oquendo, Russell Jessen, Luc Brantome and Mason Lyman broke a 24-year-old BVAL Record in the Mens 400 Free Relay, set in 1997 by De La Salle High School, of 3:13.71. The new record, held by Liberty High School, is: 3:12.23.
Congratulations are due to all of the BVAL and Liberty swimmers, who endured the toughest of years, and to Liberty’s enormously proud Head Coach, Cindi Coats.
