Organizations Rally to put the “Live!” back in “Live Where You Play, Discovery Bay”
Discovery Bay has always enjoyed a reputation for original and outstanding events from a variety of different organizations. Local non-profit organizations and businesses have historically done well hosting their own events but, as each has their own mission and objectives, it is no secret that most local groups haven’t worked together for a cause in a while. In the month of October, that trend is over.
Starting October 9th, with a Free Pumpkin Giveaway, and continuing through December 18 with the Willow Lake Lighted Boat Parade, local entities are coming together to bring Discovery Bay back to life, and the common theme is “free.”
OCTOBER 9, 11 AM-2 PM: Family Pumpkin Giveaway & Pumpkin Hunt!
The Hurst Team (Heidi Hurst, Doreen Covarelli, et al) has partnered with the Delta Leos (youth service club) to give away hundreds of free pumpkins (and not the little ones!) and send families off an a Leos-created Family Pumpkin-Hunt adventure by Slifer Park @ Wilde/Newport Drive. Each family must have a ticket to receive a pumpkin and play (one per family), but the ticket is FREE! Additional Giveaways include prizes for Pumpkin Decorating & for a variety of Family Pumpkin Hunt Challenges. This activity brings families out to enjoy weekend time together, outside in our beautiful community, but without an uncomfortable event crowd
*Free ticket only available at the bottom of their announcement in the October edition of the Delta Sun Times *see below), delivered to every home the first week of the month.
*Families may send in a picture of their pumpkin after decorating at home for prize consideration.
OCTOBER 24: COMMON GROUND FESTIVAL
Most every group in Discovery Bay is merging together for “Fund the D.B. Holiday Tree!” A cooperative effort to raise an extraordinary amount of money to bring a truly fantastic Christmas Tree back to the square (on Discovery Bay Blvd @ Riverlake Road) in time for this season’s annual tree-lighting ceremony, December 4. Businesses like Uptown Trends, Guaranteed Rate, the Delta Sun Times, and Corcoran Global Living have joined with the Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Delta Leos and Cubs Clubs, Scouts, Odyssey of the Mind students, Guzzardo Team, Callahan’s, 50 vendors and the entire community… and they are all involved in the October 24 “Common Ground “BallFest” to personalize decorations that will earn a permanent place on the new D.B. Tree while also enjoying a “Taste of Discovery Bay” from local restaurants.
The Chamber of Commerce is also hosting Bingo (October 14) and Food Truck Night (October 30) with those proceeds dedicated to the tree as well (discoverybaychamber.com).
For more information, on these and other partnership events, check out the Common Ground story on the cover, and the Calendar of Events pages of your October Delta Sun Times.
