There may be two ballot initiatives for school choice in November 2022.

Following the distance learning experience most students encountered during Covid-related shutdowns in 2020-2021, and growing concern amongst families about government mandates over children in schools, independent surveys demonstrate a 60% or better approval for school choice statewide (*EdSource 2021).
Two groups are hoping to capitalize on this trend, both proposing statewide ballot initiatives for November 2022; The Education Freedom Act (EFA) brought forward by the grassroots organization ‘Californians for School Choice’ and the Education Savings Act (ESA), by political group Fix California – basically a copy of the EFA initiative with some added limitations.
