Following the distance learning experience most students encountered during Covid-related shutdowns in 2020-2021, and growing concern amongst families about government mandates over children in schools, independent surveys demonstrate a 60% or better approval for school choice statewide (*EdSource 2021).

Two groups are hoping to capitalize on this trend, both proposing statewide ballot initiatives for November 2022; The Education Freedom Act (EFA) brought forward by the grassroots organization ‘Californians for School Choice’ and the Education Savings Act (ESA), by political group Fix California – basically a copy of the EFA initiative with some added limitations. Both will be circulating petitions in the months ahead, hoping for enough signatures to put their initiative on the ballot. Here, we have provided a comparison of the two…
