Discovery Bay’s high-speed thrills, internationally famous boating event, the “Big Cat Poker Run,” returns to the California Delta, August 11-13, 2022.
Presented by the Discovery Bay Lions Club [real ‘Big Cats’], the event draws some of the fastest of boats on the planet to this small waterfront community
The weekend of fun begins (for the public) Friday, August 12, as local fast boaters lead visiting crews on a lunch run and tour of the Delta. After 5:00 PM participants start appearing at the check-in registration and welcoming party, featuring live music at the Discovery Bay Marina.
Saturday, August 13 is Poker Run-day. The loud rumble of 120 fast boats can be heard at every corner of the town during their 9:00 AM start. The public is welcome to enjoy this sight from the levee trail, with best views found near the Lighthouse. These powerful vessels make record time as they circle the Delta, making several social-stops and a private concert lunch at Windmill Cove before returning for the Saturday night after-party and concert at the Discovery Bay Marina.
The Lions’ Big Cat Poker Run raises a tremendous about of money which directly benefits important charitable causes in THIS community; Local schools, food banks, veterans, special kids, the blind, water safety programs, etc. Funding raised from Big Cat events enabled the Lions to sustain many local charities through the pandemic, exhausting more than $120,000 in Discovery Bay Lions Club reserves. Please, shake a Big Cat hand in thanks if you have the chance and consider sponsoring or participating in this year’s event so the Lions can continue their amazing work!
The Discovery Bay Lions love to see local fast boating enthusiasts participate! Tickets and sponsorships are still available. Check out complete details inside this month’s edition of the Delta Sun Times and on the Lions’ website: www.bigcatpokerrun.com.
